Robo Kids? School Requires Radio ID Badges

Yahoo! News - Parents Protest Student Computer ID Tags

An elementary school in Sutter California is requiring students to wear radio badges that track their every movement at school.

Some parents at Brittan Elementary are outraged their kids will be subjected to such seemingly unimaginable things. Administrators say it's a way to simplify attendance and will help cut down on vandalism. Principal Earnie Graham says he hopes to add barcodes so kids can pay for lunch and check out books from the library automatically.

Does this sound super weird to anyone? I understand the whole need for security at an elementary school, but isn't this taking it a little overboard? Should six year olds really have to pay for their school lunch by implant? Who gets to be student 666?

The plan was implemented without parental input and some wonder if there is a better way.

"There is a way to make kids safer without making them feel like a piece of inventory," said Michael Cantrall, one of several angry parents who complained. "Are we trying to bring them up with respect and trust, or tell them that you can't trust anyone, you are always going to be monitored, and someone is always going to be watching you?"

I have to agree with Mr. Cantrall, this is crazy and I wish him luck in his lawsuit.
